"Prof. Carole Boyce Davies, Africana studies, recalls being surprised when learning about many of her colleagues’ academic histories as she served on a Cornell salary committee.
'I was shocked, totally shocked, that people I looked up to and those men who walked around with the blazers and the Ivy League things and all that — many of them didn’t have that many publications,' Boyce Davies said. 'So they were just operating on white male privilege — and, you know, the ability to sort of have that posture that nobody looked at.'
Boyce Davies said that these white men, bolstered by their privilege, were able to attain tenure having authored significantly fewer publications than their URM counterparts."
