On behalf of Kate McCullough, Director of FGSS and LGBT Studies.

Hi everyone,
First of all, welcome to the 2025-26 year and thanks for being a part of the Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies community here at Cornell! I’m writing to introduce myself as the new Director of FGSS. I am one of four Joint Faculty in FGSS, a designation that means that each of us is appointed half in FGSS and half in another department and our work is divided between the two. In my case, I was appointed in FGSS and the Department of English in 2000 and have been happily working from this interdisciplinary space ever since. I teach the core courses for FGSS as well as a range of other courses, from “History, Memory and Gender in the Contemporary Novel” to “Food, Gender and Culture.” My Ph.D. is in English from the University of California, Berkeley, but I also have an M.A. from University College, Dublin in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama. My interest and goals in teaching have always been fueled by feminist pedagogy; I structure my classrooms to help students claim their voices and explore their ideas. As Director of FGSS I hope to carry on the good work of our previous directors and to steer our ship through the many icebergs of contemporary US culture. I welcome any and all ideas you might have for the program—please email me (mkm23@cornell.edu) anytime if you’d like to talk!
Best,
Kate McCullough
