The Gertrude Spencer Prize

First-Year Writing Seminar Teaching Assistant, Caitlin Kane (Ph.D. Candidate in PMA, FGSS graduate minor) and Isa Goico '25 have won a Gertrude Spencer Prize. This prize recognizes the excellent preparatory and other work that led to the finished paper, “Revolution Queer style now!”, which Isa wrote for her First- Year Writing Seminar, Feminist, Gender, and Sexual Studies 1118: Queer Archival Performance: Writing and Performing LGBTQ+ Histories.

The committee of readers offers its congratulations to Isa and Caitlin on their outstanding work!

Awards are offered for excellent expository writing in First-Year Writing Seminars, Expository Writing, and Writing in the Majors sections. To be eligible for these awards, essays must have been written in response to a teacher's assignment. Student essays are eligible for possible submission in Discoveries, the Knight Institute's annual magazine of student prize-winning essays. Students submitting an essay for prize consideration must be nominated by their instructor, fill out an application and submit the essay to the Knight Institute Prizes and Awards site.
