“The Blind Side” is not the first film to be criticized for a ‘white saviour’ narrative, PMA Associate Professor Samantha Noelle Sheppard tells BBC News: “What we see with these kinds of films is that even stories about Black lives are not really about Black people. They are about the benevolence and the righteousness of white paternalistic forces.”
